SIX OF THEIR BEST!

If you could present the Big Red Book to anyone, who would you choose? As one of television's longest-running shows, This Is Your Life, returns on Wednesday (ITV) for its 23rd series, we asked six TV stars to imagine stepping into presenter Michael Aspel's shoes. And our celebrities had absolutely no trouble deciding whose lives they would love to put in the spotlight...

ZSA ZSA'S A REAL GLAMOUR GIRL!

'I once did an interview with Zsa Zsa Gabor and she'd be my first choice. She's so fascinating – and think of all the men she'd had! When I met her she was wearing all that jewellery – in fact, she even wears it to feed her dogs. But beneath the glitzy surface is a very human side and that's the part I'd like to root out.'

Judith Chalmers

BOB'S JUST THE JOB

'My first choice would be Robert Mitchum. He's the sort of guy who does his job so brilliantly but never makes a fuss about it. When he cracks a joke it's always understated, yet there's that marvellous twinkle in his eyes. He has a reputation for being a hell-raiser but, in reality, comes across as a very steady person. Then there are all the fantastic actors he's worked with. Many are long gone but there are enough left to make a brilliant show.'

Windsor Davies

STEVE MARTIN'S A COMIC GENIUS

'I think Steve Martin is a comedy giant and I'm dying to know what his mum and dad are like. They might help me understand how he grew up to be so completely zany. Choosing guests would be interesting. I'd love to know what kind of friends he attracts.'

Steve Wright

THE SPARKS WILL FLY WITH MARLON

'Definitely Marlon Brando, although it would be incredibly difficult to find out what he is really like. His whole life has been fascinating and I'd love to know what makes him tick. There was a time when he didn't get on with his Guys and Dolls co-star Frank Sinatra so I would have him as a guest and watch the sparks fly. I'd also love to interview Liz Taylor, Jean Simmons and all the stars who remember his early days. And I'd get all his women and children on the show because people don't know much about them.'

Lorraine Kelly

KATHARINE HAS SO MANY TALES TO TELL

'No doubt about it, it would have to be Katharine Hepburn. She's my great idol. Throughout her life she has never compromised her beliefs and that's something I very much admire. To look back over her extraordinary career would be so interesting. I'd love to find out what it was like working with all those great actors. At her age, she's seen and done practically everything – there'd be so many tales to tell.'

Liza Goddard

WILD ABOUT WOODY

'As a famous film director we know a lot about Woody Allen but I'd love to find out about his early life. He used to work with Mel Brooks and Larry Gelbart (who wrote the film Tootsie). They must have some tales to tell. Then there are the beautiful women he's worked with, such as Diane Keaton and Mia Farrow. But apart from anything else, he's made some of the best films I've seen.'
