THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Evelyn Laye, actress and singer, was surprised by Michael Aspel on stage at Croydon's Ashcroft Theatre.

Evelyn made her stage debut at the age of 15, and the first few years of her career were spent in mainly musical comedy and operetta. She made her Broadway debut in 1929 in the American première of Noël Coward's Bitter Sweet and appeared in several early Hollywood film musicals.

In a long and glittering career 'Boo', as she was known to her friends, became one of Britain's greatest stars and most celebrated beauties.

Evelyn was previously honoured by This Is Your Life in August 1959.

“It's lasted quite a long time! It's going to be rather exciting!”

Mary-Jane Burcher recalls the experience of This Is Your Life in an exclusive interview recorded in November 2012
