THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Alvin Stardust, singer and actor, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews outside Thames Television's Euston Road Studios while signing autographs for fans.

Born Bernard William Jewry, but performing first as Shane Fenton in the 1960s, he had a successful career in the pre-Beatles era, with four UK top 40 singles in 1961 and 1962.

However, he became better known for singles released in the 1970s and 1980s as Alvin Stardust, including the UK singles chart-topper Jealous Mind, as well as later hits such as Pretend and I Feel Like Buddy Holly. Alvin met his wife - the actress Liza Goddard - at the recording of Michael Aspel's This Is Your Life in May 1980 - they married in 1981.
