Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Sandy MACPHERSON (1897–1975)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Sandy Macpherson, theatre organist and singer, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews at the Jubilee Studios, in London’s Hoxton district.
For ten years from 1928 Sandy was the resident organist at the Empire, in London’s Leicester Square, before being appointed BBC Theatre Organist. In the early months of the second World War he presented a number of request programmes on BBC Radio, for instance 'From My Postbag' and 'At Your Request', and on a Sunday evening 'The Twilight Hour'.
In the early fifties Sandy was best known for his regular programme of light-religious music 'The Chapel in the Valley'. He also had a request programme running at the same time which concentrated on slightly lighter music and was very popular with older listeners.
