Denis LAW (1940-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Denis Law, footballer, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews.
Denis, who was born in Aberdeen, began his footballing career with Huddersfield Town in 1956. Four years later, he was signed by Manchester City for an estimated transfer fee of £55,000, which set a new British record. After one year with City, he spent a season with the Italian side Torino before signing with Manchester United in 1962.
Denis spent 11 years with United, scoring 237 goals in 404 appearances. Nicknamed The King and The Lawman, he helped the club win the First Division in 1965 and 1967, leaving in 1973 to return to Manchester City for a season before retiring. Internationally, he played for Scotland 55 times, including at the 1974 FIFA World Cup.
