Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Robert POWELL (1944-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Robert Powell, actor, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews on Queen's Walk on London's Southbank, having been led to believe he was there to promote his new film for Australian television.
Robert, who was born in Salford and studied law at the University of Manchester, began his theatrical career as Assistant Stage Manager at the Victoria Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent before securing acting work at London's Arts Theatre and later, the Royal Court.
Having made his film debut in Robbery in 1967, he achieved his breakthrough in 1970 with the BBC science fiction series Doomwatch, which led to regular work in film and television. In 1976, he played the title role in the four-part television miniseries Jesus of Nazareth - a role that earned him a BAFTA nomination and made him an international star.
