Ben FULLER
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Ben Fuller, stage door keeper, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews while posing for publicity photographs at the Whitehall Theatre in central London.
Charles Henry Fuller, nicknamed Ben, joined the training ship HMS Minotaur after running away to sea aged 14 in 1895. Having become a fireman with the London Salvage Corps in 1910, he worked his way up to Station Officer and later Chief before retiring in 1934.
At the age of 51, Ben became the stage door keeper at the Windmill Theatre, a variety and revue theatre in Great Windmill Street, London, famous for its nude tableaux vivants. He was still working a 12-hour day, six days a week, at the age of 79.
