THIS IS YOUR LIFE - David Kennett, lifeboat coxon, was surprised by Michael Aspel while being interviewed onboard the Yarmouth lifeboat off the coast of the Isle of Wight.

Dave, who was born on the Isle of Wight, joined the Merchant Navy after leaving school at 15. In his early 20s he worked on the Needles Ferry and later helped deliver yachts to the Mediterranean before joining the lifeboat service in 1968.

Having been made coxon of the Yarmouth Lifeboat in 1971, Dave was the RNLI's longest serving coxon until his recent retirement, leading the busiest lifeboat station in British waters in over 730 rescue launches and saving over 220 lives and being awarded a silver and bronze medal for gallantry.
