THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Gavin Hastings, rugby union player, was surprised by Michael Aspel while helping with a training session for young players at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.

Gavin, who was born in Edinburgh, was educated at George Watson's College, Paisley College of Technology and Magdalene College, Cambridge. He played for Cambridge University, Watsonians, London Scottish, Edinburgh District and Scottish Exiles.

He made his debut for Scotland against France in 1986 and went on to win 61 caps for the national team, 20 of which as captain. He twice toured with the British Lions, to Australia in 1989 and as captain on the 1993 tour to New Zealand. Gavin retired from international games during the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
