Mike REID (1940-2007)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Mike Reid, comedian and actor, was surprised by Michael Aspel at the end of his stand-up show at Lakeside Country Club in Surrey.
Mike, who was born in London, began his performing career as a singer in his local pubs and clubs and later worked as a film extra and stunt double. Entering a competition while on his honeymoon at a Butlin's holiday camp led to him appearing in the finals at the London Palladium and, as a runner-up, he was awarded a nationwide tour.
In 1972, he appeared in the second series of ITV's stand-up programme, The Comedians and later presented the ITV children’s quiz programme, Runaround. In 1987, he joined the cast of the BBC soap opera EastEnders as Frank Butcher.
