Ned SHERRIN (1931-2007)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Ned Sherrin, broadcaster, author and director, was surprised by Michael Aspel during a reception at the BBC's Broadcasting House in central London, celebrating the 400th edition of his Loose Ends radio programme.
Ned, who was born in Somerset, studied Law at Exeter College, Oxford University, following his national service with the Royal Signals. He joined ATV and later the BBC as a television producer and director, while also writing and producing musical reviews for theatre, radio, and television.
In the 1960s, he was responsible for the hugely successful satirical show That Was The Week That Was before moving into producing films, such as The Virgin Soldiers and Up Pompeii. In the 1970s, he produced and directed for the theatre, both plays, such as Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell and musical revues, scoring a huge hit with Side by Side by Sondheim.
