Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Joan STANTON (1921-?)

THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Joan Stanton, housewife and mother, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews in the audience at the BBC's studios in Gosta Green, Birmingham, having been led to believe she was there to see the programme, The Heart of the Midlands.
Joan, who was born in Wolverhampton, started her working life as a cleaner after leaving school. Despite having suffered from an eye condition from the age of eleven, which she kept hidden, she was a keen dancer and learnt to play the piano.
While working in a fabric factory, she lost her sight completely in her late teens. In 1962, married with six children, she underwent an operation which successfully restored her sight after 24 years of blindness.
